A house in use

Naturfreundehaus Brünig has been in use since 1949.

Today, it is a guesthouse, a home, a working place and a project space at the same time. The house is not new, not polished and not finished. It is used, lived in, cared for and developed step by step.

We run the house personally. At the same time, we give our guests space. Staying here does not mean being in an anonymous hotel operation, but in a house that continues to live and work.

Naturfreundehaus & guesthouse

The house is located on the Brünig Pass, at around 1000 metres above sea level, between Lucerne and Interlaken.

It is a simple guesthouse with mostly private rooms, shared bathrooms, dining rooms, common rooms and space for groups.

The structure is simple and shared. This shapes the stay.

Middle of Switzerland

The guesthouse is part of Middle of Switzerland.

Middle of Switzerland connects different fields of work:

• Music
• Design
• Hosting
• Publishing
• Residencies
• Festival and academy formats

Not all of this is directly visible to guests. But it shapes how we understand the house: as a place where things can happen.

Working in the house

Alongside the guesthouse, other forms of work also take place in the house.

These include:

• Music studio
• Pottery space
• Workshop areas
• Small residency formats
• BOLSOM Festival & Academy

These areas are not always open to all guests. But they are part of the character of the house.

A house in ongoing use

The house is old, built of wood and more sound-sensitive than a modern hotel.

There are quiet times, full times, working phases, group stays, meals, arrivals, departures and sometimes events.

Between check-out and check-in, the house often becomes very still. At other times, it is lively.

We sometimes call this the MOS tides.

Not an ordinary hotel product

Naturfreundehaus Brünig is not an ordinary hotel product.

It is a place that is used.
A place that changes.
A place where guests, work, everyday life and projects exist side by side.
